Press Release

Wearing clothes seems like an easy thing to do each day? Well not for today’s youth. Some youths even believe wearing the ‘wrong’ clothes can lead to social suicide. Statistics* say 77% students have been bullied mentally, verbally, or physically. WhatIWear launches Fashion Against Bullying (FAB) in June 2012, hoping to free them from their limits, to help them explore their fashion journey, or simply just to take a stand against bullying.
It is time for our community to realize that fashion bullying is real. It is not just a harmless school prank, it needs to be handled seriously. “People used to call me short & fat. Let them judge! Life is too short to pay attention to insults,” Anastasia Siantar of Brownplatform.com shared her experience. Lucky for her, she managed to overcome & succeed as one of Indonesia’s top bloggers today. Unfortunately, many suffers in silent like Brandon Bitner**, the 14 year old boy from Mount Pleasant Mills, USA, who committed suicide in 2010 after being bullied constantly in his high school.
For those whose hearts are set on experimenting in fashion, the ideal world would be a place where they can explore their style freely. The reality is, wearing clothes is a hard thing for them to do these days. As bullying rises, the risks of social suicide rises with it. FAB aims to serve as an online support group. It is here to give a moral support to those looking for hope & encouragement; inspiring youngsters to continue exploring their fashion journey, letting them know that they are not alone and that many of their fashion heroes faced similar situations before.
Fashion schools around the world have given overwhelming support to FAB, just to name a few are Parson of Paris, Whitehouse Institute of Design in Australia, FIT of New York, etc. Who knows, you might even spot FAB posters around your school! Take a stand and make a difference, you never know whose life you might be saving. Go to www.supportFAB.com now and show that you care.
